As Mothers Day approaches I find myself once again on the East Coast and over 2,000 miles from my mother. Living so far away from not only my mother, but also living away from my sisters has caused me to reflect on the women in my life, and what they have done for me.
As I’ve reflected I have been listening/reading to General Conference talks about Mothers, Women, and Motherhood. It is amazing to listen to the Brethren as they talk about, and reverence all women. Whether you have had children or are single, these quotes apply to all Daughters of God.
Here are 30 quotes to put the role and value of Mothers and all women in perspective.
“if one dishonors the commandments of God, one dishonors mother, and if one dishonors mother, one dishonors the commandments of God.”
~Russell M. Nelson
“No love in mortality comes closer to approximating the pure love of Jesus Christ than the selfless love a devoted mother has for her child.”
~Jeffery R. Holland
“Sisters, I don’t want to overpraise you as we sometimes do in Mother’s Day talks that make you cringe. You don’t have to be perfect; I don’t claim that you are (with one possible exception who is sitting nearby at the moment). What I mean to say is that whether you are single or married, whether you have borne children or not, whether you are old, young, or in between, your moral authority is vital, and perhaps we have begun to take it and you for granted.”
~D. Todd Christofferson
“I say to mothers collectively, in the name of the Lord, you are magnificent. You are doing terrifically well. The very fact that you have been given such a responsibility is everlasting evidence of the trust your Father in Heaven has in you.”
~Jeffery R. Holland.
“Look to your mother…when it comes to matters of the heart and the things of the Lord, she has a wealth of knowledge. As you approach the time for marriage and young motherhood, she will be your greatest source of wisdom. No other person on earth loves you in the same way or is willing to sacrifice as much to encourage you and help you find happiness—in this life and forever.”
~M. Russell Ballard
“Women who make a house a home make a far greater contribution to society than those who command large armies or stand at the head of impressive corporations. Who can put a price tag on the influence a mother has on her children, a grandmother on her posterity, or aunts and sisters on their extended family?”
~Gordon B. Hinkley
“there is not a higher good than motherhood and fatherhood in marriage. There is no superior career, and no amount of money, authority, or public acclaim can exceed the ultimate rewards of family.”
~D. Todd Christofferson
